”Am I fit Enough?”
It's normal when starting something new to have doubts such as "am I fit enough"? And tell yourself "I'll start when I've lost a few pounds". These feelings are normal, once you've taken the first step and tried a class you'll feel great and wished you'd started sooner.

No, we asses your level and take into consideration your time on the mats.

What are the stripes on people's belts?
In between belts, stripes are awarded marking a students progress and journey through that grade. Each belt will receive four whites stripes before the student receives their next belt.
How many belts are there in JiuJitsu?
In Jiu Jitsu there are five main belts white, blue, purple, brown and black.
Beyond this there is also black and red belt, white and red belt and red belt, these are the highest honours received by practitioners.
Junior belts are White, Grey, Yellow, Orange and Green. It is not permitted for a junior to receive a senior belt.

What is the grading criteria?
Promotions have a minimum age and guidelines for the amount of lessons to be attended. Beyond this the instructor will assist you from class to class ensuring your technical and sparring ability progress consistently to ensure a smooth progression. We do not simply award a belt by performance of a set of movements.
Do you have to pay for your belt promotion?

Am I too old?
.No, you'll find people of all ages in jiujitsu. It's never too late to have a go!
Should I purchase any extra protective gear?
The only specific protective equipment advisable is a gum shield and/or ear guard. For more advice on these please speak to your instructor.
Is Jiu Jitsu Safe?
Jiu Jitsu, like all contact sports, carries inherent risks but of course every effort is made to minimise these risks.

Do you have kids and adults in the same class?
No, although the movements remain very similar for juniors and adults. The way we teach the material changes considerably with the age of the students. We are a family orientated club and host family events where kids and adults can enjoy the club together.
